The Art Adventures continue...

Hello!
We have been painting... We have! We have! Here are a few pics of what we've been working on these last months. We have also sold a few paintings from the gallery at our sister's salon. Twistyle Salon and Day Spa .

The following two paintings are requests Erin's received for customized pieces.

"Sunset"
(I'm not actually sure of the name, I believe she let the client name it.)

"Abundance"

Close up of texture...

This is a study in detail that Erin has been working on. She is planning to add a few more highlights to before this one is complete.

This one I've been working on for awhile... almost done.

"Patterns"

Here's a piece I was recently asked to paint.

"Love and Protection"

This is the most detail I've ever painted.
Such good practice, and in the end, extremely rewarding.

Finished Work, Do-Overs and New Stuff

What we’ve been working on since our last post -

Erin added water to her blue tree painting.

I finished my replica of the sculpture “Fate” by Franz Metzner.

Erin started the first tree, covered it up, painted the second, and has decided to cover that one up too.

Inspired by artists at the the Short North Gallery Hop, Erin decided to apply more paint to the canvas. The result -  smooth.

Tiny tree close-up.

I finished this piece for my friend Krista.

Erin's newest.

Blues Trees, A Lady and her Stockings, and The Salon Gallery

I’m proud to report that the holidays have not slowed down our artistic pursuits. We met two other times besides the one I’m posting now, but it was mainly prep work for the other pieces we’d been working on and therefore not much for us to document.

However, this last time Erin started a new tree piece. She spent the majority of her time layering on the background colors in a circular motion.

The pictures don’t accurately capture the earth tones of the piece, as the first is too green and the second too orange.

Erin recently added more trees.

I was inspired to paint a rendition of a photograph by Jeff Dunas.

I started by focusing on the dark aspects of the photograph. Parts of the picture are heavily shadowed and so instead of applying black or brown, I added a dark green to the black which changed the overall tone of the piece.

I am going to practice more drawing this week, but I believe sketching earlier helped me feel able to jump right in and paint her body (and the prodding from Erin didn’t hurt either).

Also, we put some pieces up for sale in our sister's salon, Twistyle Salon and Day Spa located at 1332 Bethel Road, Columbus, OH.

It's the first time we've exhibited our work like this, and we are excited to be taking this next step.

Here's to new year full of artful endeavors!

A Tranquil Piece, The Perfect Match, and Mr. Smug...

Our latest art adventure…

The following are a compilation of two art sessions. Erin decided to create a piece for her massage room. She started with some textured paper, a few pieces of jewelry, and went from there.

She plans to hang them in a series.

Here are some close-ups to show the amazing detail in the branches and flowers.

She has yet to name the piece, but it will be displayed in her room soon!

I’m working on a piece for my friend, Krista. It began as a joke about relationships and our influence from movies, advertisements and other such media for that perfect match.

Erin and I have been experimenting with paint on black and white photographs, and so I was inspired to copy these ads from beauty magazines, convert them into photographs, and am now compiling them on drywall.

I’m hoping the end result will be a mix between pop art and scrapbooking.

Here’s Erin’s updated owl piece. I've named him Mr. Smug.
